Gillibrand Warriors Football Club was founded in 1998 with the sole aim of providing supervised football to children of all ages within the Chorley area regardless of ability. No child was ever turned away and anyone was welcome to join.
In February 2009 Gillibrand Warriors was awarded the status of Charter Standard Development Club. This development status displays a club's determination and commitment to developing their club further and caters for the growing demands on its members to the minimum FA criteria.
The playing format of junior football has changed so much since the Club was formed and it looks as though the current format will be with us for some time.
To support these changes the Club has put together a strategy for coaching and player development that encompasses the four formats currently recognised within junior football (5v5, 7v7, 9v9 and 11v11). The 'Gillibrand Warriors Blueprint' will demonstrate to parents what they can expect from the Club (from U7 to U16) when their son or daughter signs up to be a member.
Gillibrand Warriors supports teams in the Mid Lancs Colts Junior League (MLCJFL) with teams from Under 7 to Under 10 and Central Lancs Junior League (CLJFL) with teams from Under 11 to Under 16.
As a small community football club it is very important for us to have an identity, something that opposition clubs look and say, “that’s Gillibrand Warriors”.
One of the ways we have achieved this was to have a unique football kit that all of our playing members wore. No dictation by coaches and/or sponsors that wanted the latest Nike or Adidas strip, a simple design of our making using a supplier that could fulfil our ambition.
For over 6 years we have worn the same kit supplied by Halbro and it has served us incredibly well; however even custom kit outdates itself so we agreed during the pandemic that a refresh was needed, so we came up with an idea that has gathered so much interest that it would define us….
What if we get one of our playing members to design the next club kit?
We created a competition that would give our playing members something to do in lockdown - design a football kit using our club colours (Red, Black, Yellow). They could use online software or they could simply draw and colour it themselves.
We asked a local supplier, Athletico Sports, to transform the winning design into a viable kit design that could be manufactured.
We had a great response and we picked a winner based on its originality and thought process. Then we thought, why don’t we give the club badge a refresh….so we did! Our contacts at the LFA put us in touch with a great designer and we agreed on a new badge design. Then we thought, how are we going to pay for all of this? Enter PAR Group…
In addition to being the shirt sponsor of Preston North End, PAR Group do so much for grassroots football with local sponsorship across a number of teams. They had already been in touch to sponsor one of our teams; however when we told them of our competition plans they graciously provided additional funds to sponsor the club!
We would therefore like to present you with the new Gillibrand Warriors Football Kit designed by Thomas, supplied by Athletico Sports and sponsored by PAR Group...
The new kit has been a huge success with so many positive comments at our training venue at Westway and at Central Venue where our u7s and u8s play on Saturday mornings. This new design really sets our club apart and is being worn by over 60 players on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
The club would like to extend our thanks to Rhenden (Athletico Sports) along with Keith (Chambers) and Chris (Livesey) of PAR Group for their generous donation.
